So what’s hypothyroidism, anyways?
Your thyroid is an important gland that produces hormones in your body. These hormones regulate your body’s metabolism - from controlling heart, muscle, and digestive function and brain development and bone maintenance.
Hypothyroid is a disease that occurs when the thyroid becomes under-active and cannot produce enough hormone to regulate the body’s metabolism. This underproduction leads to an underperforming metabolism - and unfortunately, can cause a lot of issues with one’s health.
Many symptoms can indicate hypothyroidism; however, many of these symptoms can mimic other diseases. Here are the most common symptoms I tend to see my patients struggle with:
What are the symptoms of hypothyroidism?
Hypothyroidism symptoms include:
- Excitatory symptoms
- Increased blood pressure
- Increased heart rate
- Heart palpitations
- Shaking of legs
- Excessive weight loss
- Sunken eyes
- Frailness
- Inability to gain weight
